P4: Learners plan a new animation, to feature the character they have created, including:

a) Treatment
A written document outlining the title, medium  (e.g. sample material or title sequence for a TV show, a whole short film, video game preproduction, the trailer or titles for a feature film, a short for viral distribution) and form (format and length etc), genre, style & technique (include visual influences), synopsis, key characters and sample storylines/action/scenes.  Suggestions for voice over styles and artists.

b) Competent Storyboard
A detailed and complete outline (every shot) of the two minute sequence - hand drawn or digital rendition.  Once you have each shot planed you could rough out the key frames or key positions and turn the storyboard into an animatic.

c) Target Audience
A breakdown of you key audience covering demographical information (age, class, gender, sexuality, geographical reach . .) as well as interests, other products targeted at this audience and potential exhibition options.

d) Production Schedule
You will have most of the lesson time (about 35hours) as well as workshop & independent study time for seven weeks (11th April - 27th May) to prepare, animate, edit and post produce (sound, SFX etc) your animation.  Your schedule should provide a detailed week by week plan of your work flow for your animation. You should cover the following:

  • Asset designs (characters, props etc)
  • Background & location designs
  • Suond and voice over work
  • Breakdowns of scenes & movements
  • Amination
  • Inking/Colouring
  • Scene assembly/Edit
  • Titling, effects and post production

e) Relevant Legal and/or Ethical Issues
How are you going to deal with any rights issues (music, footage, ideas)?
What about clearance from the BBFC?
Could your content break the law or cause offence in any other way?
Do you have permission for actors and voice over artists?

M2: Learners create a detailed plan for a new animation. The treatment includes title medium, running time, synopsis, characters and key scenes. Appropriate suggestions are made for voice over artists that relate to the proposed production.

D2: Learners create a comprehensive plan for a viable new animation and justify ideas in relation to current trends in the animation industry. The production schedule is detailed and identifies timescales for the activities needed.
